HTML5 vs. Flash

What is HTML5?
HTML5 is a newly developed version of HTML. It is the backbone of everything on the internet. Some of the new elements that are different from previous versions include multimedia elements such as audio and video.

What is Flash?
Flash is a multimedia platform. Mainly used for videos and games, Flash can also be used to animate text and drawings.

My thoughts on the readings?
Although I feel it is wrong to 'bash' companies or people over the internet I feel that is it important for us to keep moving forward in the industry and really recognize when the possibility is there. Apple has decided not to use flash and that is their decision. They are deciding to take the leap forward, as well as many other companies, and I agree with them. It is much better to move forward and take a chance rather than to simpley 'stay put' because you are comfortable.

Days One & Two.

I am taking a class taught by Diana Bauman. She is currently just explaining to us exactly what we are doing but on Wednesday we are supposed to have our books so we can start coding. I've never actually thought about doing this type of thing as a profession but now that she continues to talk about it, I feel like I could actually have a lot of fun. I am pretty excited to learn how to 'make things pretty' as she called it. So far I understand almost everything she has talked about. HTML is basically the basic stuff the browser needs to know when someone is searching and CSS is the pretty stuff. :)

Later on in the class we have to design our own website. I think mine should be something fun. Since I'm a dance teacher and my friend is opening her own 'dance studio' type thing I may base it off of the studio's site that I work for (amypeeldanceavenue.com) but I would also like to do something more interactive such as the famous Facebook.com. That just seems a little too complicated for a beginner. It would be cool also if it could be updated on a cell phone and people could post and ask questions about what time practice was or to inform the teachers they were sick or simply wouldn't be attending for other reasons. As another layout option, I like the Designer Images website designerimagesphotography.com. They took my senior pictures and I go to their website every so often just because I like it. I'm not 100% sure on how it's going to look yet. Those are just some options :)
